Hunger is Scary

Halloween is just around the corner, and there are creepy decorations everywhere you look. Halloween is full of spooky fun, with ghosts and goblins and mummies and frights galore. It’s scary, but at the end of the day, it’s just pretend. The decorations come down, and the costumes come off.

On the other hand, there’s nothing scarier than the reality of not having enough to eat. The worry and fear of not knowing whether you can keep your family fed can haunt you and keep you up at night. The devastating impact of not having enough nutritious food impacts every aspect of the lives of those facing food insecurity. And it’s a constant dread for many of our neighbors.

You can help! While you’re buying candy this Halloween to hand out to neighborhood trick or treaters, why not also consider purchasing some food staples to give neighbors facing food insecurity the peace of mind of a full belly and pantry? If you shop at Harmons, you can drop off your donations right there at all of their locations statewide!

Not sure what to buy? Think of what your family enjoys eating, then purchase the same. Our most needed food items include peanut butter, mac & cheese, canned meats (tuna, chicken, spam, etc.), chili, SpaghettiOs/Ravioli, canned fruits and vegetables and boxed meals. Even better if these items are low in sodium or sugar and contain all-natural ingredients. A complete list of our food drop-off locations can be found HERE.
